Our history drives back to 2002 where we started as a small-scale business which produced red clay calicut tile type.The factory was located in the village Thambarawila which is few miles away from well renowned city Dankotuwa and about 13km away from Negombo, which is famed as a tourist hub.
After 10 years of experience in manufacturing red clay roofing tiles the Sole proprietor namely Alex Jayantha Batepola needed expansion to his business. His main target was to uplift this local industry which was degrading day by day with the lack of reputation and lack of support from governments which had restrictions on clay and wood which were the main raw materials to bring a quality roofing tile to the customer.
With all substitutes coming to the market and trying to replace the traditional roofing tile in the country, there were many businessmen in the same field who left this industry and closed their factories.But there were a handful of manufacturers who had the ability to withhold pressure or the competition from other substitutable product manufacturers.
Mr.Alex is one of them, who had other ideas of expanding his business.He, himself had brought moulds and samples of roofing tiles from Italy when he was returning back to Srilanka after 15 years as a clerk.
As the initial step of expansion he had started another factory, 1.5km away from the original location and kept hands to the designs brought from Italy and started manufacturing Roman tile type in Srilanka. As days pass by, the commencement of manufacturing Euro tile type which is similar in shape but different in size also had begun.
Nearly one quarter out of the local roofing tile manufacturers had given up the chase and fall apart when recalling 5 years back time. And another half of the representation had been limited only to calicut tile manufacturing, there were a quarter of the whole manufacturing community of red clay roofing tiles who were chasing behind glory and who were capable enough to evolve.
One standout person was Mr.Alex. He had gradually developed his business to a brand which was at that time admired throughout the island. Further, his business had grown to a middle-scale business. This business, which started only by manufacturing calicut tiles had now grown to a business which produced Calicut , Roman , Euro , CurveIn Calicut and Ridge tile types.
With all the hardwork paying off, it was time for technological improvements. Majority of the factories were using the 1960's technology to produce red clay roofing tiles in the latter part of 2017. But, our standout individual was equipping his factories with new machines and making sub processes semi-automatic, so that he could make his outputs accurate and with high quality.
The success story he shares with all of us is that, though he equipped advanced technology to his factories, he never forgot or eliminated the traditional processes which paved the way to manufacture quality roofing tiles in the beginning. He emphasis that the collaboration of modern technology with traditional processes has resulted to the brilliance of products and Golden Roof Tile factories.
In 2018, the brand name "GOLDEN ROOF TILES" becomes the first and only roofing tile brand to be accredited with SLS certification for both Roman and Euro tile types.
It’s with so much pride the sole-proprietor highlights that, when other brands got accredited only for one tile type out of the two mentioned above, he was proud of his business and staff who made him a standout Infront of the whole roofing tile manufacturing community. He further elaborated that this could result for more and more satisfied customers in the coming years.
Mr.Alex, father of two children with the daughter being the elder and the son being the younger had carried on his reign in the roofing tile industry for nearly two decades was searching for support as the business grew day by day.
After successfully completing his higher studies as a software engineer, his younger son joins hands with him to assist his family business. He had grown up from his early days in the factory environment and has the knowledge about each and every process and all the equipment in the factories.
Before completely involving to the family business, during his higher studies he was the person behind sales and marketing of Golden roof tile factories. Later he completely focused toward the business and is currently continuing the resumed legacy.
